Here the psalmist David was magnifying and praising God.
Showing the reader who God is to him.
This psalm gives us assurance of who God can be in our lives,
if we trust Him. When we let God be the head of our life and give
Him the lead to guide us in the path of righteousness; then we can
understand what David was exclaiming about God in the psalm.
The psalm will come alive and we will begin to understand what is
meant by "the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want."
As I was studying one day this psalm was broken down to me
on this wise.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
God is our protector and provider. We don't have to worry about anything if we trust Him.
2. He maketh to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
God gives us the best and we can rest in peace knowing that He takes care of us.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
God renews us and gives us strength when we are torn down. He guides us and leads us in the right way to life eternally.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Even though we go through trials and tribulation in this life. God will perform His Word over us as He promised "I will never leave you nor forsake you." We don't have to fear evil or whatever the enemy is trying to form against us. God's rod will correct us when we are out of line and His staff will guide us to safety.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
We will succeed no matter what comes our way when we allow God to be our guide.
When our enemies think we are counted out because of their plots. God will exalt us in front of them; and make our provisions run over in abundance.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
When we do what is required of us, trusting in God with all of our heart, goodness and mercy shall follow us until the end.
