The Transferring of Spirit.

As I was listening to a devotional one morning concerning Leadership. God revealed something very insightful to me.

The devotional was speaking of the prophet Elijah’s transferring of spirit to his student Elisha. They proceeded to say that you can’t just think of your works that you have done in the earth. You must have a successor to carry on the work.

God enlightened my eyes as to what Elijah did for Elisha in transferring the mantel is the same as Jesus did when He was ready to ascend to heaven.

Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit to carry on the work of God. He did twice as much miracles as his predecessor Elijah had done.

Before Jesus left he told the disciples greater works than what He had done will they do because He was going back to the Father.

John 14:12

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit came down descending like a dove upon Him. Endowing Jesus with power/Spirit, to do the work of God.

In Acts Chapter 1 Jesus told the disciples to wait for the promise of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the power you will need to do the work of God in the earth.

Act 1:4-8

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Jesus ascended and in Acts chapter 2 the transferring of Spirit happened. The Holy Ghost came while they were together in one place. Jesus transferred the power that He had in the earth (Holy Ghost) to the successors of a Him, the disciples to carry on the work.

Act 2:2-4

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit to do the work of the Lord. God gave us the Holy Spirit which in turns endows us with power/gifts to work in the kingdom of God.

What God allowed Elijah to do with Elisha by giving him a double portion of his spirit. Was a precursor to what Jesus has done for those who believe.

Ephesians 4:8

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Those gifts come from a transferring of His Spirit, the Holy Ghost!!

Be encourage in this season and use whatever gift that God has given unto you for the kingdom’s sake. Be not afraid for God is with us in all that we do.

Remember Jesus said

John 14:12

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

God bless,
