"Don't Bury Your Talent/Gift

Updated: May 2

Matthew 25:14-30

Jesus was teaching a parable about the kingdom of heaven and he said it is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants , and delivered unto them his goods. (14)

And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.(15)

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.(16)

And likewise he that received the two, he also gained other two. (17)

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. (18)

Some time later the master of those servants returned. He called them in and asked what they had done with the money. (19)

He that received the five talents/gifts told the lord you gave me five and I gained five more to add with it. (paraphrasing) (20)

The one with the two did the same as the one with the five talents and gained two more. But the servant with the one talent/gift made an excuse as to why he did not make gain with his talent/gift. His response was, I knew you are an hard man, reaping where thou has not sown, and gathering where you have not strawed: and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent/gift in the earth.

Now the first two had given there response, the master was well pleased for they used what he had given them and said Well done thou good and faithful servants; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

But the one that hid his talent, the lord spoke and said:

you wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: at least you could have put my money in the bank, so I could have earned interest on it. Take the talent/gift away from him, and give it to the one that have the ten talents/gifts. (21-28)

When the Savior (Jesus) ascended up on high, he gave gifts unto men and grace has been given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Ephesians 4:7-8

All this was done for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:12

The gifts are not just for us but to be used within the body of Christ to heal, set free and deliver in the many areas of the lives of others.

When we as believers be fearful of the work that Father God has commissioned us to do. When we do not operate in the talent/gift that He has given, we forfeit the talent/gift. We then in turn cannot be a help within the ministry.

The Word says that we are an unprofitable servant and will be cast into outer darkness. (Matthew 25:30)

When we put not our hands to the work, we are considered wicked and slothful unto the LORD. (Matthew 25:26)

The Father has not given us the spirit of fear. This is the work of the enemy to keep us from operating in the gift that God has given unto us. This causes us to miss out on the things that the Father has commissioned us to do for the kingdom.

As we see here in the text that your gift can be taken and given to another when we are fearful to operate (bury our talent/gift). We are then declared of the LORD as wicked, slothful, and unprofitable servants.

The opposite of that is when we operate in the gift/gifts that have been given us, we gain more gifts. For now we can be trusted with what God has given us and declared as good and faithful servants of the LORD.

Let's not bury our talent/gift but use them for the kingdom of heaven.

God bless,
