Be Ye Therefore Perfect?

This blog will require you to pull your bibles out to follow along as you read.

A little bible study :):)

Matthew 5:48

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Here in Matthew chapter 5 (Sermon on the Mount) Jesus speaks to the people, teaching them certain principles of life and about the law of God. He started with what is called the Beatitudes encouraging of how blessed you are when going through these things.

Matthew 5:1-12

Jesus then proceeded to teach us that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world and we are to act as such so that men may see our good works that would glorify our Father

in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus reminded them that the law of God is still right and standing, not going any where.

They must not be broken and don't teach anyone else to break them. There is a consequence of doing so. Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus taught that we can't do like others (scribes & Pharisees) teachers & hearers of the word but not doers. There is dire consequences of following their ways.

Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in NO case Enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

Jesus proceeded to teach them principles towards one another.

Matthew 5:21-26, 38-47

Jesus then taught principles in areas that will require change of the way you talk, walk and do things in life. (old Mind Sets)

Matthew 5:28-37

Jesus then concluded with a verse that puzzles most. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48

Huh Be Ye Therefore PERFECT?

Perfect in scripture refers to complete, blameless, & mature as a follower of Christ. This perfect is not the kind we refer to when we say I am not perfect. That perfect is referring that we have flaws and God knows that we do because of our sinful nature.

The perfect Jesus is referring to requires us to walk in obedience to God's Word, His Laws, Statues and Judgment. When we walk in this way we become complete, blameless and mature (PERFECT) beings carrying out the will of God. We were made in the likeness of Him, so we must carry ourselves as such.

The Sermon on the Mount may seem impossible to follow but with the help of the Holy Spirit all things are possible. We must surrender to God's will for our lives. Our righteousness must exceed those that teach the Word but walk not according to it. We must be a doer of God's Word. Obedience is the key to being PERFECT (complete, blameless & mature) as your Father in heaven is perfect.

God bless,
